Car building with heart and soul
At the recent Detroit Auto Show, President Akio Toyoda spoke about the care Toyota and its members worldwide put into making cars. He said: “we will put heart and soul into our cars just like when a mother makes onigiri (Japanese rice balls).” This poetic image reminded me of the love and care my mother used to put into preparing my lunchbox for school every day.
For all of us working for Toyota in Europe, we have always worked hard to ensure we offer our customers the best possible automotive product. Needless to say, we have taken on the challenge laid down by President Toyoda to use that same loving care in everything we do. Already, we can see the fruits of our hard work through the various awards and accolades we have recently received. Some of these have even come directly from our customers!
Let’s take a look at some of the awards we have achieved in Germany.
If you remember, my first post on this blog was about Toyota being named as the most successful brand in the 2011 TÜV Report. Toyota models throughout the line-up picked up top spots for the least rate of defect over various vehicle age categories. The Prius, which came first in the 2-3 year old category, was awarded the TÜV Gold Badge at a ceremony in Berlin on January 25.
In the recent “Best Cars of 2011” reader survey published by leading car magazine, Auto Motor und Sport, Lexus owners said that they were the most satisfied motorists in Germany thanks to the reliability of their vehicles. Our premium brand also scored 89% in terms of customer affection toward the brand. This nod from our customers in Germany echoes similar sentiments shown in the UK.
Toyota’s innovation was also highlighted recently when ADAC, the largest automobile club in the country, named the full hybrid Auris “Car of the Future.” This new category in the Yellow Angel award is judged on everyday practicality, cost, environmental impact and safety.
It would be easy to simply say “job done” at this point, but this is only the start. Keeping true to the Toyota Way, we will continuously improve everything we do and make sure that our “heart and soul” will be reflected in all of our products.
