Successful first race weekend at Nürburgring
Earlier this month GAZOO Racing – racing arm of Toyota Motor Corp. in Japan – announced their 2012 race season activities. Around the same time, Toyota Switzerland also announced their entry in the VLN races at The Green Hell, a.k.a. Nürburgring Nordschleife, this year with two Toyota GT86‘s. Both racing teams will also take part in the gruelling 24 Hours of Nürburgring later this year. Their first race of the season, VLN2 took place last Saturday. Race report after the break.
All cars finished the race with the GAZOO Racing Lexus LFA (#152) topping the SP8 class and 22nd overall. Also in SP8, the GAZOO prepared IS F finished 3rd and 58th overall. GAZOO also brought along two Toyota 86′s (that’s GT86 in Europe) for the SP3 class with cars #304 and #306 finishing 4th and 8th respectively in the class.
Toyota Swiss Racing Team fielded two Toyota GT86′s prepared by Toyota Motorsport GmbH in Germany (also the base of Toyota Hybrid Racing, our Le Mans contender this year). Keeping it within the family, car #308 featured Natacha Gachnang one of the drivers. For those of you who don’t know Natacha, she’s a Swiss racing driver and also the cousin of Sébastien Buemi who’ll be taking to La Sarthe in the Toyota TS030 HYBRID later this year!
Our Swiss entry complete their first outing without incident and finished the race 7th and 10th in SP3.
The next outing for Toyota Swiss Racing Team will be on April 28 at the Nürburgring. (Picture gallery below)
