Always a better way with Hybrid at Toyota
With more than 5.5 million sold in 80 countries around the world, it’s hard to believe Toyota’s hybrid portfolio is just a shade over 16 years old. Since the world’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Prius, came out in 1997, our customers around the world can now choose from as many as 23 full hybrid models.
The global fleet of 5.5 million hybrid vehicles saved some 12 billion litres of fuel and 34 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. This is the result of over four decades of research and development of environmentally-friendly mobility solutions.
For us, the story is only beginning. This is why we’ve dedicated the entire Toyota stand to hybrids both our current road-going models and our endurance race car. In addition, we will unveil what we believe is the potential direction this technology can take in the future.

You’ve probably seen the buzz around our world premiere Yaris Hybrid-R concept. This Europe-originated concept was conceived as a showcase of possible ideas for the development of hybrid technology to maximise performance and increase driving pleasure.
The Hybrid-R concept is based on a 3-door Toyota Yaris and features our own 1.6-litre turbo Global Race Engine developed by Toyota Motorsport GmbH (home of our endurance race team) in Germany. Coupled with the Global Race Engine are two electric motors providing intelligent electric four-wheel drive.
In the same way the concept’s inspiration, the TOYOTA Racing TS030 HYBRID, stores energy recovered under braking in a super capacitor, the Hybrid-R concept employs the same system. A super capacitor system is particularly suitable for sports cars because of the high power density as well as the quick charge and discharge speeds.
NEW! Everything you need to know about the concept now available here
What’s next?
At Toyota, we believe the next logical step towards the zero-emissions car to combat energy and emissions issues is Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicles. The launch date of our hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is already set for 2015, but we’ll be giving you a glimpse of our progress in Frankfurt this year!
Toyota Press Conference will take place in Hall 8 at 12:45 CEST on September 10.

We’ll have another exciting world premiere at Frankfurt, this time on the Lexus stand. We’ll let you figure this one out based on the first teaser image and our slightly doctored CGI rendering of the Lexus stand.
NEW! The wait is over, Lexus fans! Earlier today, we announced what is coming to Frankfurt – the all-new Lexus LF-NX Crossover concept world premiere. The LF-NX concept explores the potential for a mid-sized crossover within the Lexus product line-up. The concept is powered by a new variant of the Lexus Hybrid Drive, tuned with SUV performance in mind. The highly distinctive and powerfully sculpted styling reflects the evolution of Lexus’ L-finesse design language.
The Lexus GS 300h will also be debuted in Europe for the first time. The GS 300h features Lexus’ highly efficient 2.5-litre hybrid powertrain which will be launched at the heart of the E-premium segment.
Lexus Press Conference will take place in Hall 8 at 13:00 CEST on September 10 (with a special appearance by the stars of the Lexus “Steps” campaign)
As always, we will be there to bring you everything as it happens on this blog and our Twitter account. Be sure to bookmark and follow us for all the latest from Frankfurt!

Haroon Rashid : TME is the hybrid auto face of TMC. TME is more than 25% market of Europe for the hybrid technology.
Today many emerging markets, among which Pakistan has specially formulated the policy framework for the import of Hybrid car gasoline for one liter duty free entry if imported thru the policy of commercial imports in Pakistan.
Wish all at TME the best.
Petros Miliopoulos : One can only hope.
Petros Miliopoulos : Altered Phrase from Star Wars:
“I have no doubt that this Yaris is the offspring of TS-030, He could destroy us”.
“He is just a Hybrid, TMG can no longer help him”.
“The HP is strong with him, the son of TS-030 must not remain a concept”.
“If he could be produced, he would become a powerful car”.
“Yes, he would be a great vehicle….Can it be done?”.
“He will be produced or die master”.
Danny Chen : Haha! That’s really funny! Thanks for sharing. “I’ve got a very good feeling about this” 😉
Petros Miliopoulos : I sense a disturbance in the force.
That Yaris Hybrid-R, as described, really sounds sweet.
